Introduction

I’ve designed a lesson plan Christy's Lesson Plan for science student's at the middle/ high school grade levels. If student's are shown the difference each and every one of them can make, it will broaden their outlook on their place in the world, as well as, providing a new view as to what science can do. I will start this project off by asking student's "Have any of you seen a deformed frog?" After the students respond I will ask them, "What does a deformed frog look like?" I will then show them the What Makes a frog a frog.pptx power point presentation to finish off my snappy launch. The photo's I used for the power point were found with flickerFlickr
this will help student's see the severity of this issue. After I show my power point presentation I will show my student's a You Tube video about the life cycle of a frog: Life cycle of a frog.

Key Concepts

A video on ecosystems will be used to give background knowledge of an ecosystem: Ecosystems

I will share this YouTube video with the class to connect them to background knowledge for amphibians as bio indicators: Bio-Indicators

I will share multiple views of amphibian malformation studies with the class via You Tube videos and assign each group one study to look into validating. They will do research on these two concerns and create a hypothesis for the problem and how to solve it.

A) Group 1 & 2: Parasites Parasite video

B) Group 3 & 4 Pollution Pollution Video

Activity's & Assessments
Every student will be given a packet to guide them through this lesson.Student Packet.docx
Student's will be graded accordingly:
1) Peer Assessments and Group Work: 25%.
2) Individual Data Charts: 25%
3) Individual Research Paper: 25%
4) Individual Power point Presentation: 25%
The packet and data charts will be assessed at the end of the lesson when their presentation is completed.Student Packet.docx
The other two will fall under the rubricRubric.docx
Sources that were used to design many attributes for this graduate project can be found here: Sources for graduate project. Throughout, student's will be told that if they plagiarize they will get a score of zero for that part of the assessment. Students will be responsible for reviewing information on: How not to plagarize. They will also need to review this page regarding the: APA formats for papers.Student's will also perform a peer assessment for their group work:Group Assessment.docx.

Biography

My name is Christy Flugga (Schlangen). I was born and raised around Fargo, ND until 4th grade when we moved to Elk River, MN. I obtained a BS degree in Zoology: Fisheries & Wildlife Management; with a minor in biology from the North Dakota State University NDSU in 2001. I currently live in Paynesville, MN with my husband and children whose ages are 1-19. I really needed to utilize my degree, but to work in a field I found absolutely rewarding. I decided to look into going to Bemidji State University’s Graduate level Fast Track program to assist me in receiving a teaching license. I am currently working towards my 5-12 teaching license in science. I have been doing observations within the Paynesville School and it has been a lot of fun and very informative. Going back to school to teach science is one of the best decisions I have ever made!
