In today’s information age our classrooms need to be proper learning organizations in which we challenge our students in interesting forms of academic work. I will incorporate different effective strategies and technologies when educating my students. Student learning by creating a systemic change to pursue higher levels of student achievement will be an aspect I will be focusing on.A new age and paradigms of instructional leadership are at hand. Joel Barker says a paradigm is "a set of rules and regulations that establish boundaries and tell us what to do to be successful within those boundaries," while also serving as a set of shared ways we see the world. When presenting the topic of the "Factors Associated with Anuran Malformations and Declines" to a 6-12 science class. I want to utilize multiple web 2.0 technologies in my presentation to the class to facilitate all different learning styles and to really grab my student’s attention on the topic. I will use YouTube, Wiki’s and Flicker technologies with a Power Point presentation when introducing this topic to my class. Amphibians are one of our best bio-indicators of the environment out there, if something is wrong with them we need to pay attention and make some changes fast. Making my students aware of the causes will make them more responsible individuals and society and can then themselves become teachers as well. Teaching has to meet the demands and expectations that are made with regard to the education of today’s youth.

I want to be a mediator in the way my students obtain knowledge. This will help development student’s social skills by creating a learning environment that encourages students to become responsible citizens. These strategies will prepare students for success in our complex information age. Technologies are very useful as long as they are used as a learning tool. People learn and develop in different ways and in different directions. Students need to be given the chance to learn with alternative ways, as research shows one size does not fit all. Properly organized and facilitated learning, along with developing students as individuals, can help attain a much more useful balance in the ways we teach, learn, develop and attempt to give the skills and emotional well-being each of our students need for a happy productive life. This lesson plan with the web 2.0 technologies I have chosen will ensure learning is significant since it emphasizes the student’s own perspectives and ways of learning.
Student’s will achieve the necessary learning and development objectives that the lesson has set out for them, by touching on their personal experiences and enables greater involvement. This lesson will use hands on learning to encompass the whole student and will assist in the internal growth of the student. The lab portion of this assessment will be determined and controlled by the student’s for the purpose of achieving personal development and growth. By helping them develop as individuals, it will ultimately benefit them externally. Through this lesson the student’s will see that learning and development itself can be fun and rewarding. Students will use the scientific method after all initial research and discussion has been done. This will help them explore all options to the problem at hand.

Learning has to be based on a variety of things, rather than relying on reading and writing alone to encourage their growth as individuals. The purpose of this activity is to create an opportunity for valuable and memorable personal leaning. The learning review is a vital part of this activity and will be planned as part of the instruction to engage all of the learners. I will involve the students in personal thought, challenge and discussion in order to eventually come to some form of conclusion. I will guide the class with open-ended questions and encourage big idea thinking in which everything and anything is possible and follows it up with a facilitated discussion. My role will be to enable others to learn by drawing out the issues and developing the learning that is relevant to the individuals. The questions that I will ask are meant to stimulate thought about relevant issues and enable the group to use answers given to develop further thought and learning.

The class is a diverse group of learners, each have a wide range of strengths and needs. This is designed to meet the needs of all students through curriculum adaptations from a broad point of view. This involves discerning instruction to deliver various ways of managing information and the chance to exhibit what knowledge they have obtained. Curriculum adaptations have been divided into four primary categories: instructional strategies, instructional materials, curricular content, and assessment practices. It is also pertinent to provide curriculum content in other ways than written text and can be accomplished by providing other avenues to the regular reading requirements. This also means change in the ways information is signified to the student and their engagement with the knowledge they obtain from their coursework. Curriculum improvements can be achieved by altering the cognitive requirements in the learning task for students. With the assessment process the student’s will be given information and included worksheet that each should follow throughout the entire lesson. When working in groups students will fill out an assessment form reflecting on their peer’s contributions and their own. They will be filling out a data chart to reflect what evidence they observed throughout their experimentation.
With today’s information age all students need to be proficient with computers, their technologies and research using the internet. Can a student who plays computer games, sends e-mail or surfs the Web really be considered computer literate? When we have our students run tutorials or use a learning system are we really teaching them the skills for today’s web 2.0 technologies? Does basic word processing knowledge prepare a student for a job or for computer use in college? Definitely not, teachers and students still use computers only as the equivalent of expensive flash cards, electronic worksheets, or as little more than a typewriter. The productivity side of computer use in the general content area curriculum is neglected or grossly underdeveloped (Moursund, 1995). A portion of this will also entail research and designing their own research paper, in which I will grade based on a rubric along with their presentation. The presentation will be their own Power Point presentation to the class that will show their own reflections and knowledge obtained from the lesson.

Recent publications by educational associations are advocating for a more meaningful use of technology in schools (ISTE, 2000). I am an advocate for integrating computer skills into my class because; I want to help students learn to apply computer skills in meaningful ways. I want my students to know more than how to operate a computer. I want them to use technology as a tool for organization, communication, research, and problem solving. A meaningful, unified information technology literacy curriculum must be more than a "laundry list" of isolated skills, such as knowing the parts of the computer, writing drafts and final products with a word processor, and searching for information using the internet. Student’s will understand of how these skills fit together to solve problems and complete tasks. Students need to be able to use computers and other technologies flexibly, creatively and purposefully. Students will be able to recognize what they need to accomplish, know how a computer will help them to do so, and then be able to use the computer as part of the process of accomplishing their task. Individual computer skills take on a new meaning when they are integrated within this type of information problem-solving process, and students develop true "information technology literacy" because they have genuinely applied various information technology skills as part of the learning process.

Variations in the cognitive requirements in class period will entail these technologies changing the way students pay attention and think. These measures will increase participation and students interests. The last area involves changing the way we as teachers obtain information from a student through changing students instructional output. The use of alternative methods when assessing a students’ knowledge through different testing parameters is very important. I will use different methods other than testing to measure what my students have learned and will help alleviate anxiety for the students. Adapting the curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners involves differentiating instruction to provide all learners with a variety of ways to process information and demonstrate what they have learned, in order to "match" the way in which each individual learns most effectively and efficiently (pbs).

Students want to be engaged in their learning and be given innovative ways to learn. I feel this lesson plan has achieved that through the technologies I have chosen will stimulate multiple senses, learning styles and the student’s innate curiosity by challenging students with an interesting form of academic work. These different effective strategies and technologies focus on student learning. The various assessments are used to give students a chance to prove themselves in other ways rather than testing alone. The wiki space I have created will incorporate many other activities for student’s to see, play with and research. Teaching has to meet the demands and expectations that are made with regard to the education of today’s youth. Students are not afraid of voicing their opinion on what they like and don’t like. After the lesson is completed I will invite students to provide feedback on what they liked, disliked and anyways to improve future similar lessons to ensure I am taking everything into account for my student’s needs.
